NOTES | An
orchid genus comprising twelve epiphyte species and eight natural hybrids pansy orchids. Miltonia species have large and long
lasting flowers, often in multifloral inflorescences. This genus is split
into two distinct genera: warmer growing Miltonia (Brazilian) and cooler
growing Miltoniopsis (Columbian) often referred to as the "Pansy
Orchid", but is used interchangeably between the two. This entire genus
is closely allied to Oncidium, Odontoglossum and Brassia and there are many
complex hybrids consisting of all or some of these genera as well as others. |
GEOGRAPHIC REGION | Primarily from Brazil, while Miltoniopsis are from
the cooler regions of Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador and Columbia |
