NOTES | A single-stemmed palm
tree growing up to 30 metres tall, with a dense cone of black stilt roots at
its base. Provides a very hard,
rot-resistant timber. Used by the local indians for housing; the logs are
split, the spongy centre removed, and the hard outer trunk is used for
flooring. |

places in South America as Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela
and Brazil |
